CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has cast Tony award-winning actress Phyllis Frelich to play the mother of former leading man Gil Grissom (William Petersen). More details (including spoilers) after the jump!
According to Entertainment Weekly, Frelich (who is deaf in real life) will appear in the CSI episode tentatively scheduled to air February 3. She encounters the team—and her son’s wife Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox)—after a murder occurs at a school for the deaf. Mrs Grissom is a professor at the school, and she doesn’t approve of her son’s choice for a wife. She would have preferred if Gil married one of his former girlfriends, played by Oscar winner Marlee Matlin. Matlin’s character is one of Mrs Grissom’s school colleagues and is also her protégé. William Petersen will not return to CSI for the episode.
