Gary Sinise Cast For ‘Criminal Minds’ Spinoff, Plus ‘CM’ News & Spoilers

8 min read

Today, it was announced that former CSI: New York star Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor) has been cast to lead the potential new Criminal Minds spinoff. According to TV Line, Sinise will play “Jack Garrett, a 20-year veteran of the FBI who heads up an elite BAU team that handles cases involving Americans abroad.” The backdoor pilot for the series will be filmed next month, and it will air as an episode of Criminal Minds in the spring. You can find a tweet from Sinise below, along with one from Minds’ star Joe Mantegna (David Rossi).

After the jump, you can find news, photos, tweets and spoilers relating to Criminal Minds and the spinoff, which have been shared over the past two weeks. (Contains 61 embedded tweets, photos and videos.)

The network’s first attempt at a Criminal Minds spinoff, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, was cancelled after a short first season back in 2011. “First lesson is do it better,” CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said at the TCA Winter Press Tour on Monday. She expressed confidence in the as-yet-untitled spinoff, which is in the hands of Executive Producer Erica Messer. Messer “has been part of Criminal Minds since Day 1. Having her, one of the best showrunners in the business, behind it, that’s the key difference between this spinoff and the first one.”

Congratulations to Jennifer Love Hewitt (Kate Callahan) and her husband Brian Hallisay, who announced last week that they “are thrilled to be expecting their second child later this year.”

Here’s a question from TV Line:

Anything for Reid coming up on Criminal Minds? – Diana

All I can squeeze out of sources fight now is that Dr. Reid is due for “a great, emotional arc in Episodes 13 and 14,” airing during February sweeps.

AJ Cook (JJ Jareau) spoke to Answers.com about working on Criminal Minds, and here’s an excerpt:

2015 marks your 10-year anniversary for starring as J.J. in CBS’s “Criminal Minds” series. How do you even begin to explain the ride you’ve had the past decade on the show?

Well it’s definitely been a roller coaster ride that’s for sure. Never a dull moment. I feel so incredibly lucky that we’ve been on this ride for so long. You just never know if a show is going to connect with an audience and we’ve been lucky enough to find our place. We have incredibly loyal fans and it’s been an absolute honor to get to be a small part of the machine that pumps out episodes for them week after week.

Check out the second part of the BuddyTV interview with Cook, including this question:

Can you tease anything about the episode that flashes back to the early days of the BAU?

Oh, man, I’m excited for that episode. Yeah, Kirsten Vangsness and Erica [Messer] wrote that episode together. It’s going to be good. They cast Ben Savage as young Gideon, and wow, he was like, a doppelganger. He was so perfectly cast, and he did such an amazing job as young Gideon. Yeah, it’ll be cool. It’s sort of the beginnings of the BAU and sort of how it all came together. It’s going to be a really exciting episode. I’m excited to see that one.

Here’s a short video, which features Cook answering trivia questions:
