Mendelsohn Combines Character & Science On ‘CSI’

1 min read

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Executive Producer Carol Mendelsohn was honoured with the Commitment to Excellence Award for TV Productions at the 2014 Chicago International Film Festival Television Awards on April 10. Mendelsohn spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times earlier this week about the success of CSI, and you can read an excerpt below:

Q: Forensic science is very technical. What has been the greatest challenge of presenting that to the public on “CSI”?

A: When I think back to the first season, and our trying to write about science and the obligation to be accurate — it was a big deal. We had an obligation to explain it so people could understand it — AND be entertaining. It’s really a hard thing to do. A lot of people say ‘CSI’ is all about the science and not about the characters, but if you go back and start in season one, you’ll see we had a lot of character — we married both character and science. We still do that.
