The CSIs Take ‘Countermeasures’ In The Season 10 Premiere Of ‘Miami’

3 min read

The tenth season of CSI: Miami will premiere on September 25, and the season-ending cliffhanger will be resolved as the team works to hunt down two dangerous criminals. (Major spoilers after the jump!)

In the season nine finale of Miami, “Mayday” (review), angry ex-convict Randy North (Ethan Embry) shot Horatio and trapped Natalia in the trunk of a sinking car after his kids were taken away from him following his cooperation with escaped serial killer Jack Toller (Callum Keith Rennie). Toller, meanwhile, was able to evade capture, and he was on the run with two $100 bill printing plates stolen from the US government. According to CSI Files sources, the tenth season premiere, “Countermeasures”, picks up where “Mayday” left off. Horatio and Natalia survive their ordeal, and the team goes on the hunt for North and Toller.

Calleigh speaks with Austin North, Randy’s eight-year-old son. The little boy is worried that he and his four-year-old sister Patty will be split up. Calleigh promises that they’re doing everything they can to keep the children together, but right now they need to locate Randy. Austin says he doesn’t care about his father, and he doesn’t want to be with him ever again. He says he’ll do whatever it takes to help the CSIs track his father down.

Austin waits near a lifeguard station on the beach, and he calls his father. He tells the man he ran away from foster care, and Randy promises to come get him. Calleigh, Eric and Ryan wait nearby to intercept the man, and Ryan is determined to keep him from getting anywhere near his child. When Randy sees the police coming after him, he tries to run away—but Ryan jumps out and takes him down, cuffing him on the ground.

Randy finally tells the police something that will help them find Toller: he heard the other man mention making a deal with someone who took part in several ATM heists. The team realizes Toller is going to sell the printing plates to Leo Kendry, whom they suspected of being responsible for several ATM robberies the previous year. A bank teller was shot during one of the heists, but they were never able to tie Kendry to the crimes.

They have no idea where to find Kendry, so Tripp and Walter track down one of his known associates, Ricky Galindo. Unfortunately, Ricky refuses to give them any information when they pull him over on the side of the road. Tripp forces the man out of the car, and Walter takes a look inside. He sees several dead fish crushed into the carpet on the driver’s side, and he picks one up. These are Garra rufa, a type of fish used to give high-end pedicures. Women submerge their feet in water, and the small fish nibble away at any dead skin.

Using this lead, Horatio and Eric storm into a luxury spa with a team of police officers, locating Kendry and some of his thugs in the back room. Horatio is able to arrest Kendry, and they find the two printing plates. He returns the plates to Secret Service Agent Renee Locklear (Natasha Henstridge), and they demand to know how much Kendry paid Toller for them. Kendry gave Toller $180,000 for the plates, along with a bonus. Worried, Horatio and Renee share a look, wondering what else Toller took with him when he left. The answer pushes them to work even harder to find the killer—Kendry forced a young woman named Melanie to leave with Toller, and the team needs to find her before she becomes Toller’s latest victim.
