Leading lady Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) revealed that her personal life played a role in her decision to leave CSI: Crime Scene Investigation after season eleven. (Minor spoilers after the jump!)
As CSI Files previously reported, Helgenberger will only appear in 19 episodes during the upcoming season. Her character’s budding relationship with Detective Vartann (Alex Carter) will be explored during that time. The storyline is “a real life-mirrors-art scenario,” Helgenberger told the Daily Express. The actress got divorced last year, and her new relationship helps her relate to her onscreen counterpart. “When viewers see Catherine fall head over heels, that’s pretty much the way it’s going for me too,” she revealed.
Helgenberger might be saying goodbye to CSI, but she is leaving “on the best of terms.” She added, “It will be a wrench but it’s time to move on. The show is seen in something like 120 countries and, while others fall by the wayside, CSI goes from strength to strength.”
