Young ‘Miami’ Fan Catches Burglar

1 min read

A young CSI: Miami fan from the United Kingdom helped police catch a burglar using knowledge he learned from the show.

Leon Yates is a 12-year-old Miami fan from Bolton, England. The boy was on his way home from school when he saw Daniel Jones acting suspiciously before breaking into a home. Yates realized Jones was a burglar and saw a can of lemonade the man tossed on the ground. He picked up the can with a brush and put it in a freezer bag, which he then gave to the police. He also gave a detailed description of Jones, enabling the police to arrest the man. Jones has been convicted of 50 previous offences, and he was put in jail for two years and five months after pleading guilty earlier this week.

“I watch CSI: Miami because my sister Toni watches it on TV and I have seen what they do,” Leon said. “I think my mates will be quite impressed; they don’t know anything about it. I just forgot about it after it happened but I am proud.”

“This was an absolutely superb bit of detective work from Leon, whose quick-thinking and bravery led directly to the arrest of a serial burglar,” said Detective Chief Inspector Paul Hitchin, the head of the Bolton Criminal Investigation Division. Yates’ neighbour Florence Hill added, “Leon is wonderful really. I can’t thank him enough. I am very lucky to have him next door.”
