One character faces a serious handicap while another will lose his life in the final episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation this season.

In "Play With Fire", which is scheduled to air on May 8, "a lot of emotion and truth will come to the surface", executive producer Carol Mendelsohn told TV Guide. Gil Grissom's crime lab will explode, leading to revelations about the personal problems of staff members "that are bigger than the explosion itself", Mendelsohn said.

CSI has always been reticent about focusing overmuch on the private lives of its characters. But in "Play With Fire", according to Mendelsohn, Grissom will reveal more about his feelings for Sara with "just one word...than he could in 10 pages of dialogue."

Grissom puts Catherine Willows in charge of the investigation of the accident, which injures Greg Sanders. The chief also has to contend with a problem he has withheld from the others: his loss of hearing, as reported in The CSI Files earlier this month.

A week later, in the season finale, "Inside The Box", Detective Lockwood will be shot during a bank robbery that will be filmed in part in Las Vegas. Although the series is set in Nevada, its principal filming location takes place in southern California.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that cast members William Petersen (Grissom), Marg Helgenberger (Willows), Gary Dourdan (Brown) and Paul Guilfoyle (Brass) will travel to Las Vegas for three days to shoot at locations including a dry lake bed, the Rampart Casino and the Sun State Apartments downtown. The series will also film in an alley at First and Lewis streets, where the getaway car from the robbery will be parked.

CSI executive producer Anthony Zuiker, who wrote "Inside The Box" along with Mendelsohn, said that they like to film in Las Vegas for the finale as a reminder of their setting. "It's always an inspirational thing for the cast and crew," he told the Review-Journal.

More information on filming in Las Vegas can be found in the original article. More information on the final episodes of the season can be found in the episode guide. Thanks to Jo Tharnish for some of this!

Why can't the CSIs get dates?
All work and no play makes Greg a blue boy.
It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
Three words: Hank the Skank.
