Dourdan Meets Batman

One CSI star goes from Sin City to Gotham City.

As CSI Files previously reported, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation star Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown) will appear in the upcoming Batman: Gotham Knight. The direct-to-DVD title is a collection of six animated segments that tie together two Batman movies: Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Dourdan's character, Crispus Allen, will appear in three of the anime-style short films.

"I always wanted to do more animation voiceover stuff, so the opportunity came along and I jumped on it," Dourdan told Black Film. "Plus, it's a Batman project so how could I say no." The actor said he didn't audition for the part. "They came to me," he explained. "I was very flattered that they wanted me to do the voiceover. The animation on this is great."

Dourdan wasn't very familiar with the character before he took the role, and he said he didn't go back to read the comics before he recorded his scenes. "Everything was happening so fast and when they told me about this project, by the time they got me the material, it was time to start taping my scenes," he said. "From reading the script, I got a sense of who he is."

One thing Dourdan learned from the script is why Crispus is uninterested in Batman's positive reception among the citizens of Gotham City. "The reason he acts that way is because he's not sure which side Batman is really on," Dourdan explained. "If he's on the side of the law or the opposite, but eventually the two come to an understanding of one another."

Dourdan couldn't say whether he will be back in season nine of CSI. "You will have to ask Carol [Mendelsohn]," he said, referring to one of the show's executive producers. "I really have no answer to that question." One thing he did say for sure is that the recent rumours of him joining Celebrity Rehab are not true. "For the record, contrary to what's written on the web, I will not be any celebrity rehab," he said. "That's completely false."
