While the CSI: Miami team work to solve a double homicide, Calleigh works on a case of a more personal nature in tonight's all-new episode.

TV Guide recently released the below official synopsis for the episode, entitled "The Best Defense":

The two young owners of a city bar are gunned down after hours and another man is wounded in the attack, which was allegedly committed by a masked gunman. Meanwhile, Calleigh's dad announces he is now a public defender and needs her help with a murder case in which a woman stabbed her boyfriend to death in his car with a screwdriver.

Scott Lautanen, a newcomer to CSI: Miami, directed "The Best Defense". His previous credits include episodes of Freaky Links, The Pretender and Pacific Blue.

The following guest actors will appear in the episode:

  • Holt McCallany as Detective John Hagen
  • John Heard as Kenwall 'Duke' Duquesne
  • Jay Mohr as Aaron Schecter
  • Ian Somerhalder as Ricky

  • Leslie Odom Jr. as Kayle

Sofia Milos and Holt McCallany have been regular fixtures on CSI: Miami since "Simple Man" last season.

Emmy Award-nominee John Heard reprises the role of Calleigh's father, Kenwall 'Duke' Duquesne, having first appeared in season one's "Double Cap". The actor's credits include films such as The Pelican Brief, Home Alone and Big, as well as guest appearances on The Sopranos and Law & Order.

Jay Mohr is a familiar face from his many film roles, which include Jerry Maguire, Picture Perfect, Go and Pay It Forward. He also starred is the comedy series Action, which earned him a Golden Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.

"The Best Defense" is Ian Somerhalder's second CSI episode, having previously guest starred in "Revenge Is Best Served Cold" during CSI's third season. His other credits include The Rules of Attraction and Life as a House.

Idris Elba has appeared in The Wire, Law & Order and Silent Witness, while Brian Wedlake guest starred in S Club 7. Leslie Odom Jr. is not listed on the Internet Movie Database.

It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
