'CSI: Dark Motives' Goes Hand-Held

Fans, pick up your styluses.

CSI: Dark Motives was originally released as a computer game in March of 2004. Later this month, owners of the Nintendo DS will be able to play the game on the go. Dark Motives is a crime-solving puzzle game that puts the player in the role of a CSI from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

The game contains five separate cases. The first case pairs the player with Catherine Willows (played by Marg Helgenberger on CSI) during the investigation of a nearly-fatal motorcycle stunt gone wrong. The player must collect and analyze evidence, and he or she must also question suspects. The game takes the player through several locations in Las Vegas, including the scene of the accident and a motorcycle shop.

Game play involves moving the stylus over the DS's touch screen. The player searches for areas of interest (which will turn the arrow icon from blue to green) and chooses which tool to use for various tasks, from lifting fingerprints to lifting tire treads. Then the player heads back to the crime lab to match fingerprints, analyze liquid samples and more.

As the game goes on, the player builds a case file on the various people involved with the case and gets a search warrant to access previously-restricted areas. Once the player has solved this first case and arrested the person responsible, he or she will move on to the next case and the next CSI partner from the television series. Fans of CSI and those who like methodical games can check out CSI: Dark Motives, available on Nintendo DS November 19.
