New 'CSI' Ads Will Hopefully Attract More Viewers

Next time CSI fans see a new television ad for the show, they may not recognize it.

The Martin Agency, in Richmond, Virginia, was recently tapped to create more unique ads for the three shows. "We avoided the conventional in-your-face graphics and 30 seconds of quick clips," said Bruce Kelley, the agency's vice chairman. "This work connects because it respects the brand of the show, using provocative, compelling story-telling to draw the viewer in."

The new ad features an actor portraying one of the writers for the show. While the "writer" talks about his job, he is seen dragging a naked corpse out of his office and into his home, in hopes that the corpse will inspire him to write a good episode. The first ad premiered during the Tony Awards, but they won't be seen again until August.

CBS executives were more than pleased with the final result. "We were looking for creative work that could deftly connect our CBS network brand and the "CSI show brand," said Ron Scalera, CBS executive vice president and creative director. "The Martin Agency nailed it."

While the agency has produced ads for the cable networks TV Land, Nickelodeon, Speed Channel, and Spike TV, this is their first time working with a major TV network. "While this is project work, we're thrilled to be doing it. When you do work for a network, you know it's going to be seen by millions," Kelley added.
