Two old college buddies enter an abandoned office building in Miami's "Golden Triangle". Only one will emerge alive. The stage is set for CSI: Miami's "Deadline".

Sources today revealed the first plot information for the episode, the twentieth instalment of Miami's second season. The two men are Dalton Beck and Mike Levy, both in their late twenties, both up-and-comers in their respective professions. Dalton is an energetic journalist, always in search of a good story, while Mike works for a leading councilman. When the pair venture into the "Golden Triangle" — Miami's prime drug-dealing district — to follow up a lead, Mike is shot dead.

After Mike's death, Dalton has no qualms about pumping the police officers at the crime scene, trying to get details for his piece on the incident. Horatio Caine soon pours a bucket of cold water over Dalton's enthusiasm — the CSI wants the details, stat. Dalton says they were going to meet their contact, but when they entered the room a shadowy figure shot Mike.

That's not the whole truth, as the CSIs soon discover. Dalton's jacket has gunshot residue all over it. He 'fesses up. Dalton says he hit the gun out of the murderer's hands trying to save Mike's life.

It seems that Dalton isn't the only reporter doing a story on the Golden Triangle. Amy Rivers, another ambitious young journalist, was also at the council office asking questions about the area and the crime syndicates that operate there. But no one can find Amy until she calls Dalton and tells him she's locked in the trunk of her car, and she's been shot...

Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour. The above information comes from an early draft of the script and details may change before the episode goes to air.

"Deadline" will likely air later in 2004.
