Today, September 21, is World Alzheimer&#8217;s Day, and eight celebrities are participating in the friendly competition to increase public awareness of the degenerative disease.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;While I hope to be a favorite in the World Alzheimer&#8217;s Day &#8216;Who Wears Purple Best?&#8217; competition, my goal is for people to learn more about Alzheimer&#8217;s and take action,&#8221; Kanakaredes said.  &#8220;People do not realize that Alzheimer&#8217;s is not old age. It is a progressive and fatal disease and staggering amounts of people develop Alzheimer&#8217;s every day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nVoting for &#8216;Who Wears Purple Best?&#8217; will take place at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alz.org\/index.asp\">www.alz.org<\/a> now through Wednesday, September 30.
