Today, however, the network announced that he has been fired. Gibson will not appear in the show&#8217;s upcoming twelfth season, with no word yet on how he&#8217;ll be written out. Here&#8217;s a statement from CBS and ABC Studios, courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ew.com\/article\/2016\/08\/12\/thomas-gibson-fired-criminal-minds\" target=\"_blank\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from <i>Criminal Minds<\/i>. Creative details for how the character\u2019s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ew.com\/article\/2016\/08\/12\/thomas-gibson-criminal-minds-fired-statement\" target=\"_blank\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a> also shared this statement from Gibson about his dismissal:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I love <i>Criminal Minds<\/i> and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won\u2019t be possible now.
