After surviving cancellation for the second year in a row, CSI: New York<\/i> will try something different by delving into more personal storylines during the upcoming ninth season. (Spoilers after the jump!)<\/p>\n
\nAccording to Executive Producer Pam Veasey<\/b>, New York<\/i> will be tackling the unexpected when it returns in its new 8:00pm ET\/PT timeslot on Friday, September 28. “We are taking the characters to an unexpected place in their personal lives and the stories to an unexpected place,” she told XFinityTV.com. “This year, we throw caution to the wind, and take a left turn—either on the concept of the episode or the lives of our characters—so the audience goes, ‘Wow! That is satisfying.'”<\/p>\n
\nHowever, Veasey explained, the entire show won’t revolve around personal storylines. Instead, some of the episodes will take the time to follow a single character home from the job. “You will see the challenges they live with, some of their problems,” she shared. “They don’t always bring everything to work, even though they are a family.” These episodes will allow the fans to see each character’s history and his or her family relationships.<\/p>\n
\nOne particular relationship will follow Don Flack (Eddie Cahill<\/b>) on the job as well, when he meets a new colleague<\/a> named Detective Lovato. “We are adding a really terrific actress Natalie Martinez<\/b> and there may be a hot, little fire going on between those two,” Veasey revealed. She added that Detective Lovato is similar to Flack’s late girlfriend, Detective Jessica Angell (Emmanuelle Vaugier<\/b>), who was killed back in the season five finale “Pay Up”<\/a>.
