Harper: Life Is Precious, Make The Most Of It

1 min read

Actor and author Hill Harper (CSI: New York’s Dr Sheldon Hawkes) was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2010, but today he is cancer free. “The most important lesson I learned from that experience is life is precious,” Harper told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. “None of us are guaranteed anything or any time. Even if we live life for 100 years, which seems long in human terms, it’s just a snap in the history of the world. Make the most of it. Do your best. Help other people. Give back. Those are lessons that came from that experience.”

On April 27, Harper will be in Lubbock to deliver the keynote speech at Texas Tech’s Lauro Cavazos & Ophelia Powell-Malone Mentoring Program 10th-annual Celebration Banquet. “I’m going to talk about the idea I write about in my books that you have to be an active architect for your own life,” he explained. “It’s the idea that you can create whatever life you want. We all have the capacity to do it. To do it, you have to approach life as an architect would approach building a structure. I’m going to break down what that means.”
