Hello World!

Well, color me happy...and sad. I'll start with the good news: I'm thrilled George Eads and Sara Sidle are back on CSI. Very rarely am I happy to see a character leave a show, especially over something like salary disputes. I'm glad, be it a misunderstanding or called bluff, that it all got worked out and both will be returning to CSI when production resumes next week.

What I'm not happy at all to hear about is the possibility that Rory Cochrane might be leaving CSI: Miami. Say it ain't so! The Miami cast is a terrific ensemble, but I've always been partial to pouty, somewhat icy Speedle, who plays the straight man with aplomb to Adam Rodriguez's laid-back playboy Delko. Rarely do we see anything get under Speedle's chilly exterior, but when something does--like the death of a witness in "Wannabe"--Cochrane plays it just right.

Cochrane is reportedly leaving to focus on his movie career. While movies are all well and good, and the best way to get a big name, they seem to be a much riskier way to go than a regular role on a weekly television show. If he's dissatisfied with the amount of screen time he's getting, it seems to me the producers should consider accommodating him. Speedle is one of the more unique characters on the CSI shows, and Cochrane is a valuable asset. He adds a darkness and gravity to the otherwise often flashy and glossy Miami.

I doubt Mr. Cochrane will see this column, but if the rumors of his departure are true, I implore him to rethink his decision. CSI: Miami won't be the same without him.

Why can't the CSIs get dates?
All work and no play makes Greg a blue boy.
It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
Three words: Hank the Skank.

On Thursday, CBS will air the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode "Turning of the Screws". Here is TV Guide's description of the episode:

Six people are killed when the cars of a roller coaster fly off of their tracks at an amusement park and land in a parking area. The investigation reveals that it wasn't an accident, but murder. Outside of town, the body of a 13-year-old girl is discovered near a lake and the probe uncovers evidence that she was murdered and her corpse dumped at the site.
