Things will heat up in Miami next season — and we're not talking about the weather.

Horatio Caine and Calleigh Duquesne will both have romantic storylines, though of a very different nature, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's report from the Television Critics Association press tour. This is part of an effort to explore the personal lives of the CSIs.

In Horatio's case, he will develop an attraction for new regular Yelina Salas, a detective who also happens to be his brother's widow. However, the lead CSI will not act on his feelings, instead preferring to put some distance between himself and Yelina in an effort to "cool the romance". "But it's going to stay hot," said executive producer Ann Donahue, though she added Horatio is "probably not going to act on his feelings this season".

Calleigh's new love will also be close to home, with the bullet expert set to have an "office romance", according to Zap2it. The web site did not say whether the object of Calleigh's affections would be a previously-seen cast member or a new character.

"What we're doing is have the other characters, who aren't as well known, interact, so you get to see them as a family," said Donahue, who noted that there had been a lot of attention focused on Horatio Caine last season.

Several high-profile guest stars will make appearances during the first few episodes of the season. In addition to previously announced featured players such as supermodel Heidi Klum and Chad Lowe (story), Bridgette Wilson-Sampras is also set to drop in to Miami. The actress, who most recently starred in Extreme Ops, will play a "trophy wife" in the second instalment, "Dead Zone".

Why can't the CSIs get dates?
All work and no play makes Greg a blue boy.
It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
Three words: Hank the Skank.
