CSI: New York will get some help from Dr. Phil McGraw when it takes on Law & Order for the first time on September 22nd.

Variety (via Yahoo!News) is reporting that CBS has decided to yank the Wednesday edition of 60 Minutes and the premieres of King of Queens and the new comedy Center of the Universe in favor of A Dr. Phil Primetime Special: Family First on September 22nd. Family First was originally scheduled to air the week before, on September 15th.

The special, Dr. Phil's first for primetime, is two hours long, and begins at 8pm Eastern time. It focuses on help and advice for dysfunctional families, and features imput from celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Will Smith and others.

The premieres of 60 Minutes, The King of Queens and Center of the Universe will air the following Wednesday, September 29th. The King of Queens is entering its seventh season, while this will be the first season for Center of the Universe, which stars John Goodman and Jean Smart.

After the two-hour special, CSI: New York will debut in the 10pm slot, directly against the premiere of Law & Order. The showdown is one of the most-anticipated of the Fall 2004 season, though CBS CEO Les Moonves has said he doesn't think CSI: New York will beat Law & Order he has predicted the show will be successful in its time slot (story). "CSI: New York is going to do better than we've done in that time period in decades, so it's very exciting to be able to attack that," Moonves said.
