When the Miami CSIs are faced with a sticky situation involving a crocodile, who do they call? The Discovery Channel's Jeff Corwin, of course.

The wildlife expert and conservationist will play himself in the third episode of CSI: Miami's sophomore season, entitled "Death Grip", the Miami Herald reported. Corwin helps the CSIs extract a crucial piece of evidence — a human foot — from a crocodile without killing it.

Location filming for "Death Grip" took place Thursday in the Florida Everglades — with no less than 120 cast and crew on site for the shoot. Miami staples David Caruso (Horatio Caine) and Khandi Alexander (Alexx Woods) joined Corwin to shoot his scene which involved sticking a tube into the mouth of a (rubber) crocodile.

"Death Grip" reportedly revolves around the disappearance of a 14-year-old tennis prodigy. When remains of a teenage girl are found mauled by a crocodile, the CSIs fear the worst. "You're going after one moment in film, and ultimately all the focus is on that — whatever hope we had for this girl is just gone now," David Caruso said during the crocodile shoot. "It's a bad time."

Jeff Corwin has hosted the Discovery Channel's wildlife series, The Jeff Corwin Experience, since 2000. With degrees in biology and anthropology, Corwin has toured the United States educating the public on wildlife conservation, and is currently writing a series of books on endangered species.

The complete set report is available here at the Miami Herald. "Death Grip" will likely air in October, 2003.
