According to CSI Files sources, “Sweet Jane” will open with open with a series of shots from a Las Vegas bus station set to the tune of the Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane.” First, we see Vegas in the 1970’s. The skyline is much different than today. No Mirage. No Luxor.

Time elapses. Now we’re in 1981. A young woman, late teens, nubile but unconscious of her allure, looks lost as she steps off a bus near a Liberace poster. She doesn’t notice the men leering at her.

1989. Another young woman, similar to the first, but wearing the clothes and hair of 1989 is at a bus station newsstand plastered with flyers announcing the opening of the new Mirage. She doesn’t notice the man behind the newsstand counter staring at her lasciviously.

1997. Another young woman, similar to the others, but again with hair and make-up to reflect the times. Unsure where to go. A billboard advertises the opening of the Venetian. She is oblivious to the men staring at her body as she passes.

Present day. Catherine emerges from a blur, kit in hand. Brass stands outside the yellow tape. The completely nude body of 19 year old Annabeth Sorenson is on the ground. She looks similar to the other girls.

Sorenson has peri-mortem bruising on her neck. Dr. Robbins determines the cause of death to be asphyxiation due to strangulation, but it wasn’t a quick death. The killer choked and released at least three times, consistent with sexual asphyxiation. A sexual assault examination reveal that vaginal trauma and that the killer wore a condom.

The team investigates similarities between this victim and the similar Jane Does, each of which were killed in a similar manner. When each body was found, the location had the highest crime rate in the city. With the earlier victims, chloral hydrate (a hypnotic sedative) was used. However, if Sorenson was sedated prior to sexual asphyxiation, whatever the killer used didn’t leave a trace in her body.
