A scene that would have revealed CSI: Crime Scene Investigations character Bobby Dawson, played by Gerald McCullouch is gay, was cut from the episode "Grissom v. Volcano", but the revelation may be worked into another episode at a later date.

According to theWashington Blade, a scene that was cut from the December 11th episode in which Bobby Dawson spoke of his partner and their young daugther. The scene was shot, but was ultimately not used in the episode.

"We shot [the scene where Bobby comes out], and it was very true to life," McCullouch said. He also told the Blade that he didn't realize the scene had been cut until the episode aired. "It wasnÕt until I got phone calls when the show aired on the East Coast that it wasnÕt on the show," he said. "I thought, 'What? IÕve been doing two days of press on this.'"

McCullouch acknowledged that CSI rarely delves into the personal lives of its characters, and that this could have had something to do with the decision to cut the scene. "Our personal lives never come into the story, so it stuck out like a sore thumb," he said. "Because of that they decided to nix it." He went on to add that the producers of the show had called him to apologize about the cut.

McCullouch, who is gay, said he never pushed for any sort of revelation for his character. "My job as an actor is to pretend to be other people, for me to guide where itÕs going isnÕt as much fun," he commented. But he did support the producers' decision to give his character a partner and a child. "It was very natural and very healthy, I thought," he said.
