Harper Gives His Opinion On Obama

By Rachel
May 21, 2007 - 9:34 PM

Hill Harper (Dr. Sheldon Hawkes) knows who he is supporting for the 2008 election.

Harper attended Brown University and Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, Harper was classmates with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. He told Freep that he and Obama are friends. "After 17 years, you really know somebody," Harper said.

Harper has been raising funds for Obama. "He would be wonderful for this country," Harper said. "I endorse him wholeheartedly." Harper's political views are very different from those of co-star Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor), but according to Harper, the two have "agreed not to discuss them."

In addition to introducing him to Obama, Harper's education also provided him with an opportunity to help young people. While speaking at schools, Harper noticed that young men would "come up to me, look over their shoulders and say, 'Can I ask you a question?'" He looks at his book, Letters to a Young Brother: MANifest Your Destiny as "mentorship on paper" and a way to help young men "navigate this journey from childhood to manhood."
