'CSI: New York' Gets Gourmet Coroner

According to TV Guide, actor Robert Joy has been cast as Dr. Sid Hammerbeck, CSI: New York's newest medical examiner.

Joy is best known for his role as Mark Boskovich on the new NBC series E-Ring. His impressive resume includes appearances in shows such as Medium, Boston Legal, and Without A Trace, and movies like Fargo and Radio Days. Joy's starring role on E-Ring might not allow him to spent much time on the set of New York, fortunately the show already has Dr. Evan Zao (Ron Yuan) to cover for him.

Dr. Sid Hammerbeck is described as an "off-the-charts genius" who only recently traded in a career as chef to become medical examiner. His culinary past still shows through in his forensic work, from his brilliant handling of the knife, to his tendency to still see himself as an artist, and even to his special knack for robbing the CSIs of their appetite by comparing his subjects' body parts to his favorite restaurant dishes. Hammerbeck will first appear in the episode "Dancing With The Fishes."

TV Guide had other tidbits about New York's upcoming storylines. Anna Belknap (Lindsay Monroe) was interviewed by the magazine, and she revealed her character's "deep, dark secret" will come to light during the Miami/New York crossover episode, which will take place during November sweeps. Belknap didn't spill the beans regarding her character's secret or what it may be, but it was described as "bloody," by the magazine. The actress said her character is turned on by solving crimes, and, "she can get past the disgusting stuff."

The other characters aren't staying behind in the development front. Stella Bonasera, the magazine said, may enter a relationship with hunky sculpture Frankie Mala, who we first saw in the premiere episode "Grand Murder At Central Station." Expect to see more of Mala in upcoming episodes.
