Yesterday was the release date of the first season of CSI: New York on DVD.

The 7-disc set comes with all 23 episodes of the season plus the Miami/New York cross-over episode "MIA/NYC – NonStop." Extras include an overview of the characters told by the stars, the science behind the show, a set tour, and specials featurettes like why the city of New York was chosen and what it was like for the crew and the stars to work with so many animals – such as dogs, elephants, and rats – during the first season.

The New York set also comes with plenty of commentaries. Series creator Anthony Zuiker provided the commentaries for the episodes "Blink," "Officer Blue," and "Tanglewood." Miami showrunner Ann Donahue gives the audience an insight into "MIA/NYC – NonStop," and supervising producer Timothy J. Lea comments on "Outside Man" and "Recycling."

The boxed set came out to some positive reviews. Seth Gecko of AV Forums had this to say about it:

"This season is presented with a slightly grainy, dark transfer (mainly due to the grim setting) and a superb soundtrack (the best of any of the CSIs), along with a nice assortment of extras. Those who have already seen the show and like it should already have this on pre-order and those who like the other CSI variations should definitely give this a try, you are unlikely to be disappointed."

You can read Gecko's review, which also includes an overview of the picture and quality sound of the set, here. Brad Bevret, of RopeofSilicon.com, also highly recommended the DVD to anyone with extra funds (seeing as the CSI DVD sets are typically more expensive) and DigitalObsessed.com's Chuck Aliaga was so pleased with the quality of the DVDs and the show itself he revealed New York has turned him into a CSI fan. Aliaga gave all aspects of the DVD an A grade.

But not all reviews were positive. Stacy Chamberlain, from The Daily Free Press, was a bigger critic of the show than the DVD set itself:

"Despite an obvious attempt to emulate the original, New York lacks the balance between quirky scientists and a blue-collar supporting cast. Instead, it's filled with hardheaded New Yorkers who assume that every suspect is guilty."

The CSI: New York DVD set has a list price of $64.99. However, fans of the show can purchase it from Amazon.com at a 30% discount, or $45.49.

Why can't the CSIs get dates?
All work and no play makes Greg a blue boy.
It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
Three words: Hank the Skank.
