'Level 26' Is 'More Than Just A Book'

CSI creator Anthony Zuiker launches a new "digi-novel" series to expand reading across multiple platforms.

Zuiker's series is called Level 26. It refers to the 25 levels used by law enforcement to classify serial killers. With the series, Zuiker plans to introduce readers to the twenty-sixth level. The first novel will be called Level 26: Dark Origins. Level 26 will start a "revolution in publishing for the YouTube generation," Zuiker told USA Today.

Each book in the series will have 20 "cyber-bridges" to go along with it. These bridges feature actors portraying characters from the novel in order to provide supplementary information. The purpose of the videos is "to embellish the novel and drive readers to the next book," Zuiker explained.

The series was written with Duane Swierczynski, and Zuiker brings his experience with television to the "triple platform" nature of Level 26: books, videos and an interactive website. Dark Origins will be more than "just a book on the shelf," Zuiker said. "You can watch the story on film and log in to unlock deeper levels of the experience."
