Smith: It Opened Up My Eyes

Lauren Lee Smith (Riley Adams) is glad she was able to join CSI: Crime Scene Investigation during the show's ninth season.

Smith has been acting for more than 15 years, but CSI is her biggest role yet. "This is the first opportunity that I've had to work on a network television series that is wildly popular," the actress told the Boston Herald. "It definitely opened up my eyes. It's amazing to have that sense of stability. I've never had that before."

"It's very nice," Smith continued. "Just getting to work with this group of people, I had no idea it could be this good. I really didn't. Everyone is so humble and grateful for their jobs, still after nine seasons. I think that's a good way to come to work."

The actress isn't sure why she got the role. "I'm very lucky," she revealed. "I don't know how it all came about. I sort of blinked and suddenly I'm here and living in L.A. on the No. 1 TV show. I just feel very, very blessed."

The character of Riley is still a bit of an enigma. "They've played with this whole idea of her being mysterious and always telling a different story about her background, which I like and which keeps the character very open," Smith explained. "Every episode I get, I'm like, 'Oh, this is what they're doing with her.' It keeps it more interesting for me personally not to know too much in advance."

The original interview is from the Boston Herald.
