David Caruso Reveals What Makes 'Miami' Unique

By Carolina
July 13, 2005 - 4:44 AM

David Caruso (Horatio Caine) recently discussed the idiosyncrasies of Miami, specifically the ones that set the show apart from CSI and New York.

"I think that we have a slightly different license," the actor told Time Zone Magazine. "We're more police-oriented so we're able to discharge or weapons on occasion and get into some of the action."

Though Caruso is aware of the criticism the show has received, particularly from the stars of CSI (who still oppose to the expansion of the franchise) he purposely brushes it aside, as the actor prefers to focus on making his show great. "You can't compete with a show that successful," the actor said rationally, as Miami continues to be Monday's most watched show.

And while CSI fans continue to bosom and learn more about crime scene investigation, Caruso said the little knowledge he has on the subject constantly hinders with his time off. "I live in South Beach in a condo near the water and there had been a mugging right by my house," the actor remembered. "I looked out and there were all these crime scene investigators. They were out there searching the beach with tape and bags. And I'm not kidding, I had a real temptation to go down there and offer to help."

CSI: Miami is no doubt a ratings success, but even if it wasn't, Caruso revealed he's thankful to have received a second opportunity "My first go-around 10 years ago and leaving was such a public moment I didn't even let myself kind of dream about a second chance," he said. "It's kind of like a miracle to get an opportunity to be a part of something like this."
