David Caruso On the Cover Of TV Guide

It seems CSI:Miami star David Caruso is genuinely enjoying two roles at the moment – one of being a father, the other of playing Horatio Caine on the world’s most watched television show.

Caruso is the proud father of 18-month old Marquez, with another baby on the way with his yoga instructor girlfriend Liza. He fondly described a regimented day that begins with Sesame Street at 7:30 a.m., includes an afternoon at the playground, a nap, a snack and a bath, with his own bed time following not long after his toddler son’s. "I'm 51 years old now and I see my life in the clearest way I ever have," he says. "Having a little boy has taken me to a very deep place. I'm starting to realize everything I ever worried about was just a waste of time."

Playing Horatio Caine 42 weeks out of the year, Caruso sees Horatio as a real person, spending more time in Horatio’s world than he does in his own. "Maybe it sounds creepy, but Horatio Caine dose exist," he says. "The sense of responsibility he projects in the world is very real. And when fans run up to me and say, 'Hey you make me feel safe,' that's as real as real gets. In those moments, those people aren't talking to me, they're talking to Horatio."

And, of course, there is the Horatio Caine impression. Everyone has one. The impressions typically include the same ingredients -- hands on hips, head cocked, a well-paced pause and the all-important removing, or putting on, of sunglasses. Jim Carrey shared his on The Late Show With David Letterman. David Spade and Sean Hayes both did theirs on The Showbiz Show. Caruso is "honored," he says, and relates the most stunning impersonation of all. "We went to see The Who and were invited backstage to meet Pete Townsend. Here's my ultimate boyhood hero, and he turns to me and says, 'Would you mind if I do an impression of you?’ And, hey, it wasn't half bad."
