William Petersen (Gil Grissom) hits the stage.

During 2006, Petersen took a short break from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation to perform Dublin Carol in Providence, Rhode Island. The play ran for five weeks and caused Petersen to miss several episodes of CSI. The show dealt with his absence by casting Liev Schreiber in a guest-starring role.

Later this year, Petersen will return to his role as John Plunkett. This time he'll be performing for Steppenwolf in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Dublin Carol will run from November 13 to December 21 in the Upstairs Theatre.

Petersen's character is an alcoholic, and the play is set in an undertaker's office on Christmas Eve. Amy Morton directed Dublin Carol when Petersen performed it in Rhode Island, and she will be taking on the same role this year in Chicago. Tickets for the play go on sale September 25.

Check out the Chicago Sun Times and the official Steppenwolf website for more information.

Why can't the CSIs get dates?
All work and no play makes Greg a blue boy.
It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
Three words: Hank the Skank.
