Hello World!

CSI's new episode "Grissom v. Volcano" is one of the few new episodes this week in a sea of reruns, and with the holidays approaching, reruns are going to be the norm for a few weeks, with new episodes fewer and far between.

CSI and CSI: Miami are thankfully exceptions to a new trend that seems to be picking up speed: the 6 week hiatus. Beginning at the end of November or the beginning of December, shows such as Angel, Smallville, and Star Trek: Enterprise went into reruns, and new episodes won't air until the middle of January. It's almost like a second summer break, writ small: Angel, for instance, ended with a shocking revelation.

So what's the cure for the rerun blues? Lately, it's been DVDs. Television shows are appearing in vast quantities on DVD, and fans are lapping them up. CSI's first and second season are out, and CSI: Miami's first season is due out early next year. Some shows are appearing quickly after a season wraps. Alias is in its third season, but both its first and second season are available on DVD already. 24 has followed the same pattern.

So now, instead of having to hunt down old videotapes or watch the umteenth Christmas themed TV movie, there's a wealth of options at your fingertips. My recommendation? 24, hands down. If you haven't seen the exciting first or second season of this show, put it on your holiday wishlist. You won't regret it, and it might just make you forget about all those winter reruns.

Why can't the CSIs get dates?
All work and no play makes Greg a blue boy.
It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
Three words: Hank the Skank.
