Regis Philbin Gets Insider's Scoop From 'CSI' Cast

Live With Regis And Kellly's Regis Philbin visited the set of CSI recently to get a set tour and talk to the cast and the crew about the popularity of the show.

Philbin interviewed William Petersen (Gil Grissom) and Marg Helgenberger, who talked about how CSI has raised awareness through the world regarding forensics. "We're educating everyone: public, criminals, but also people who may've had the misfortune of being attacked or something," said Helgenberger. "They know how to leave behind a trail of evidence: they have to pull somebody's hair out by the root so that you leave a skin tag, and that's where you get the DNA."

While showing off Grissom's office, which is grimly decorated with dead animals in test tubes and beakers, Petersen discussed how much Grissom has changed through the years. "I actually used to eat chocolate covered grasshoppers, way back in the pilot, but then I decided I didn't really wanna eat my own animals," he said. "He's calmed down quite a bit." Helgenberger added, "Except he has a thing for dominatrixes."

Philbin next caught up with Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders), who talked a little bit about his character's revolving door of hairstyles. "It's a character of its own," he said about the hair. "Marg and I have an unspoken competition going on to see who can fit as many hairstyles as they can before the end of the run of the show."

In the morgue, Philbin met Robert David Hall (Doc Robbins), who, while showing off his character's tools, talked about the realism of the show. "Part of the magic of CSI, or any television show, is that you create the aura and when you're here we light it in such a way that you think you're in the morgue," Hall said. "Part of my job is to be friendly Dr. Robbins but in the creepiest of circumstances. I enjoy doing that."
