Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown) is one of many celebrities expected to sing live during this year's Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony.

According to Variety, Emmy producers have decided to spice up the show by having various celebrities perform old TV tunes on stage. Dourdan has been tapped to sing The Jeffersons theme-song "Movin' On Up" alongside Grammy winner Macy Gray.

But Dourdan’s performance won’t only serve as tribute to the long-gone show, the actor may also win best musical number of the night. While he and Gray sing on stage, fans will get the chance to go online and vote for the duo. The segment has already been dubbed Emmy Idol, and other celebrities, such as William Shatner and even Donald Trump, are expected to compete.

Emmy Idol is the producers attempt to boost Emmy ratings, as they’ve been slipping for the past couple of years. "By jogging memories as well as creating wonderful moments by having them performed on this year's Emmy show, we think we're giving viewers one more reason to tune in and be entertained," executive producer Ken Ehrlich said.

This isn’t Dourdan’s first musical performance, in fact, the actor is an accomplished musician, having mastered the guitar, piano, bass, drum and sax. Earlier this year he sang at Live 8, and will next star in My Boy, a movie based on the life of rock legend Phil Lynott, front man of the 70s rock band Thin Lizzy.

The Emmy awards will air September 18th on CBS. Visit Daily Variety (free subscription required) to learn more about Emmy Idol.

Why can't the CSIs get dates?
All work and no play makes Greg a blue boy.
It probably has something to do with the fact that every time Horatio Caine has sex with a woman, she dies.
Shower sex loses its allure when there's lemons involved.
These people collect body fluids for a living. Then again, if David the coroner can get laid...
They can get dates, I bet. We just don't see it.
Three words: Hank the Skank.
