Hall Unveils ‘Things They Don’t Teach You In School’
Thursday, February 18th, 2010CSI: Crime Scene Investigation‘s resident coroner, Robert David Hall (Dr Al Robbins), is getting ready to release an album called Things They Don’t Teach You in School. Hall recorded the bluesy music last summer in Austin, Texas with “some of the best sidemen in the business.” The actor told the Jacksonville Observer, “I’ve been a musician and a singer almost all my life, but it just sort of faded. [Then] My baby brother came down with cancer, liver cancer. He’s 46.”
His brother’s situation reminded Hall that people don’t have forever to get to “that secret list of things we want to do in life.” So he got busy. “I’m a good musician,” he continued. “I think I’m a good writer. I have no illusions. I just hope that people who check this out will enjoy it.” Hall wrote seven of the songs on the album and co-wrote two others. Samples of the music from Things They Don’t Teach You in School can be heard at robertdavidhallmusic.com.
Townshend Discusses The Who’s Super Bowl Medley
Thursday, February 11th, 2010As CSI Files previously reported, rock band The Who performed at the Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show this past Sunday, February 7. The band is responsible for all three CSI theme songs: “Who Are You” for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami‘s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and “Baba O’Riley” for CSI: New York—all of which were included in the 12-minute medley of songs during the halftime show. Guitarist Pete Townshend said bandmate Roger Daltrey and Townshend’s brother Simon (who plays guitar for the band on tour) came up with the idea for the medley.
“I thought we’d just do the CSI songs,” Townshend said. “My pitch was just to do three regular-length songs. We could fall back on what was very familiar. But Roger felt he needed something that gave him more narrative scope, as he described it. He and Simon and one of the lieutenants in the crew put together a track and surprisingly I thought it worked really well. Roger and I have a great relationship these days; it’s very warm and close. So I trusted him to do that job.”

Guitarist Pete Townshend has revealed the set list for the concert, which will feature a medley of the band’s music that includes all three CSI theme songs.
“We’re kinda doing a mashup of stuff,” Townshend told Billboard. “A bit of ‘Baba O’Riley,’ a bit of ‘Pinball Wizard,’ a bit of the close of ‘Tommy,’ a bit of ‘Who Are You,’ and a bit of ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again.’ It works—it’s quite a saga,” he continued. “A lot of the stuff that we do has that kind of celebratory vibe about it—we’ve always tried to make music that allows the audience to go a bit wild if they want to. Scars On 45 Signs With Atlantic Records Affiliate
Friday, November 20th, 2009Earlier this year, CSI Files reported that the unsigned band Scars on 45 had their song “Beauty’s Running Wild” featured during the wedding between Danny Messer (Carmine Giovinazzo) and Lindsay Monroe (Anna Belknap) in the CSI: New York episode “Green Piece”. Thanks in part to the exposure on New York, the band has now been signed with Chop Shop, a label that is affiliated with Atlantic Records. They signed the deal this week and will fly out to Los Angeles, California to mix the debut album they recorded earlier this year.
“We are on a bit of a high at the moment,” said singer Danny Bemrose, who wrote the song. “It all kind of stems from the CSI thing. It has been in the pipeline and we have been in negotiation between lawyers – it’s more of a relief now it’s done and dusted.”
