The 2nd District Court of Appeals in Los Angeles, California ruled that a couple cannot sue CBS over allegedly defamatory statements made in the script for an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009In May, CSI Files reported that real estate agents Scott and Melinda Tamkin filed a $6 million lawsuit against CSI: Crime Scene Investigation writer and producer Sarah Goldfinger for defamation and invasion of privacy. CBS filed a motion to have the case dismissed under a California free-speech law, but it was denied by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge. The judge stated that the episode in question (“Deep Fried and Minty Fresh”) misused the Tamkins’ identities “in connection with a public issue or an issue of public interest.”
