The honorees are programmes that dealt with thought-provoking issues last year. In the case of “Coupe de Grace”, CSI tackled race and prejudice in the police force. Other winners include freshman Fox series Glee (”Wheels”), ABC’s Private Practice (”Nothing to Fear”) and the Discovery Health documentary Unlocking Autism.

“This year, we were impressed by not only the number of entries received but also by the breadth of subject matters addressed,” said Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chairman and CEO John Shaffner. “We went to great lengths to select [programmes] that reflect the mission of the Television Academy Honors committee — to highlight the power of television and its ability to initiate important dialogue and ultimately instigate change.”

“The rapid evolution of high-definition televisions in homes has made the role cinematographers play in creating content for episodic television more challenging and more important than ever,” said ASC Awards Committee Chairman Richard Crudo. “All of the nominees artfully helped to transport audiences to fantasy worlds.” The other cinematographers acknowledged in the category are Eagle Egilsson (Dark Blue, TNT), Jeffrey Jur (FlashForward, ABC), Michael Price (Ugly Betty, ABC) and Glen Winter (Smallville, CW).
