Employed since CSI’s inception, Smight started off as an editor and gradually explored other avenues behind-the-scenes such as producing and directing. His latest episode–which airs this Wednesday–marks the fourth time Smight has played a critical role in a cast departure. The incredibly busy director took some time out of his weekend schedule to discuss his transition from editor to director, playing a major part in cast departures, and tease his upcoming episode with CSI Files’ Shane Saunders.

Welliver Discusses His Role On ‘CSI’
Tuesday, January 24th, 2012Titus Welliver will once again guest star in this week’s episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, “Willows in the Wind”. Following “Zippered” and “Ms Willows Regrets”, Wednesday’s episode is the third and final installment in the arc leading to Marg Helgenberger’s (Catherine Willows) exit from the series. Welliver plays Mark Gabriel, the man in charge of a military contractor called Ceressus Logistics. Gabriel is “a CEO and a high-powered guy” who runs “a Blackwater type company,” the actor told iamROGUE.
“It’s an interesting character,” Welliver added. “It was great to work with Ted [Danson, DB Russell], who I’ve known for a while, and Paul Guilfoyle (Jim Brass) who is a total Jedi knight and ninja master actor. I also loved working with Marg, and Annabeth Gish (Laura Gabriel). They’re a great bunch of people, and it was a lot of fun.”
Helgenberger: You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me
Tuesday, January 24th, 2012This week’s episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, “Willows in the Wind”, marks the end of Marg Helgenberger’s (Catherine Willows) run on the hit crime drama. However, the actress told the Washington Post, “You haven’t seen the last of me.” Helgenberger said she might return to the series in the future to appear in an episode or two. “[T]he producers said to me practically every day the door is wide open,” she explained. “If I’m available and I’m up for it you betcha.”
Helgenberger Gets Her Star On The Walk Of Fame
Monday, January 23rd, 2012As CSI Files previously reported, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation‘s Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) was announced to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On Monday, January 23, Helgenberger was honored with the 2,458th star on the Walk of Fame located in front of the historic Musso & Frank Restaurant near former CSI star William Petersen (Gil Grissom). Costar Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) and China Beach colleague Dana Delany spoke at the event.
Other guests at the event included executive producers Jerry Bruckheimer, Carol Mendelsohn, Don McGill, Anthony E. Zuiker; CSI costars Elisabeth Harnois (Morgan Brody), Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders), Robert David Hall (Dr Al Robbins), Ted Danson (DB Russell), David Berman (David Phillips), Jon Wellner (Henry Andrews), Wallace Langham (David Hodges), Marc Vann (Conrad Ecklie), and Archie Kao (Archie Johnson). Liz Vassey (Wendy Simms), Naren Shankar (former executive producer), Sarah Goldfinger (former consulting producer), Dustin Lee Abraham (consulting producer), Louis Milito (executive producer), Frank Waldeck (line producer), Christopher Barbour (executive story editor), Tom Mularz (story editor), Jack Gutowitz (script coordinator), Gavin Harris (supervising producer), among others, also showed their support.

‘CSI’ Takes The Top Spot With Lower Ratings
Thursday, January 19th, 2012The latest episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, “Ms Willows Regrets”, earned the top spot on Wednesday, January 18. According to the final ratings, Marg Helgenberger’s penultimate episode pulled in 12.02 million viewers, which was down from the previous episode, but it put the crime drama ahead of Revenge (7.67 million) and Law & Order: SVU (6.42 million). In the key 18-49 demographic prized by advertisers, CSI earned a 2.8 rating/7 share. This was down from the previous installment, but it was enough to beat Revenge (2.5/6) and SVU (1.8/5).
