‘CSI’ Investigates A Deadly Car Crash In ‘Boston Brakes’

3 min read

The CSIs are on the case after a fatal car accident, and they are shocked to discover the victim is someone they know. (Major spoilers after the jump!)

According to CSI Files sources, “Boston Brakes” opens with journalist John Merchiston (James Callis, “The Devil and DB Russell”) buying coffee at an open air market. As he walks away, a beautiful woman comes up behind him and tells him not to turn around. She’s a friend of someone called “Suvari”, and she wants confirmation that Merchiston is a journalist and not someone working for the Agency. Merchiston isn’t even sure that Suvari is real, but the woman slips him a flash drive and says Suvari will get in touch with him. She disappears, and Merchiston hurries toward a parking garage as if he can feel someone watching him.

Merchiston’s Camaro peels out of the parking garage and races down the street. He runs a red light, getting the attention of a police officer, who turns on the lights and sirens. The car won’t stop, and several more police officers join the pursuit. The Camaro is heading toward the Strip, and the police need to stop him before someone gets hurt. He turns the corner, losing control as he rushes across an intersection, slamming into a light pole. The car practically explodes, disintegrating on impact.

Finn arrives, finding CSI Sean Yeager (Matt Davis, “Helpless”) already at the scene. He’s picking up extra shifts, so he’ll be working with Finn on the case. The car is a rental, and they can get the name of the renter when the office opens in an hour. In the meantime, David checks the burned corpse for an ID and finds a passport. Finn is shocked to see Merchiston’s photo, and Yaeger recognizes him from the story he wrote about the crime lab. It doesn’t make sense that he’d run from the police, but there must be something they don’t know.

DB thinks back to the last time he saw Merchiston, and he regrets that he spent so much time with the journalist without really knowing him. Finn, on the other hand, seems to know him pretty well. It isn’t difficult for DB to put the pieces together and realize she and Merchiston have romantic history. Because she spent time with Merchiston, she knows the journalist was working on a story about government spying. He told Finn he was being followed, and she wonders if his death was anything but an accident. Maybe he wasn’t running from the LVPD—maybe he was killed trying to run from someone else.

Please note that the above plot details have not been confirmed by CBS, Alliance Atlantis or Bruckheimer Films, and until such time you should treat this information as you would any other rumour. The above information comes from early script drafts and the details of the episodes are liable to change before the episodes are shown.

“Boston Brakes” is expected to air January 22 on CBS.
