‘Miami’ Hunts For A Killer With An Agenda In ‘Caged’

3 min read

The nineteenth episode of CSI: Miami’s ninth season finds Horatio and the team protecting a cage fighter from a prison escapee. (Major spoilers after the jump!)

According to CSI Files sources, “Caged” finds the team in pursuit of yet another escaped prisoner. Dante Kroll went to jail eight years ago, and they know that he likes to steal cars. While the team is searching for Dante, a cop in an unmarked SUV flashes his red and blue lights after he sees a car pull through an intersection without coming to a complete stop. The officer walks up to the driver’s side window and looks in at the driver. It’s not Dante in a stolen car, it’s a man named Tim Garrigan. The officer demands that Tim get out of the car, and he claims Tim’s tail light is out. They walk toward the back of the car, and Tim can clearly see that both lights are working. When Tim demands to know what’s going on, the cop responds by kicking out the light.

Tim tries to get away, but the so-called police officer attacks him, beating him until he is left dead in the street. When the team arrives at the scene, a distressed young woman shows them a picture on her cellphone of the man responsible for this police brutality—it’s not a cop at all, it’s Dante Kroll. He killed Tim and took his wallet, so the team has no way to identify their victim.

The SUV Dante used when he pulled Tim over was stolen, and it belongs to his brother, Logan Shepherd. Logan was headed down the wrong path when Dante was arrested eight years ago, and Horatio gave him a second chance. Since then, Logan has made a name for himself as a mixed martial artist, and he’s preparing for a championship fight later that night. He swears to Horatio that he isn’t helping his brother. He hasn’t even spoken to Dante in a long time. As far as Dante is concerned, Logan may as well be dead.

The team searches a trailer Dante has been staying in, but they find nothing that gives them a clue about what he’s planning to do next. However, they do find Tim’s wallet, which enables them to identify their John Doe and notify his next of kin. When Natalia speaks to Tim’s wife, Rose, she shows her a picture of Dante. Rose recognizes him. He came to their house a few days ago, trying to buy a ticket from Tim. The ticket is for the mixed martial arts championship, and Tim was excited about being able to go—he didn’t want to sell the ticket, so Dante left. Rose tells Natalia that Tim kept the ticket in his wallet. There’s no sign of the ticket in the wallet now, so Dante must have killed Tim to get it.

Eric and Horatio rush to the arena, but there’s no sign of Dante in the luxury box Tim reserved to watch the fight. The arena owner Trevor Mason checks the system and determines that Dante checked in with the stolen ticket 20 minutes ago—so where is he? He didn’t come here to watch his brother fight, so he must have had another reason to be in the arena tonight. Horatio spots a yellow zip tie dangling from where it was attached beneath one of the seats in the luxury box. If there was a weapon hidden here, Dante might be targeting his brother. They need to stop the fight before Logan gets killed.
